Good Evening, Grace Vineyard Family and Friends.

It’s around 6pm on Saturday, so it’s definitely time for me to write the Weekly Update!  I’m excited to say that I’m back with you again this weekend!  2 Sundays ago I stayed home sick, and last Sunday I preached at Life Mission Church in Escondido.   A big Thank You to Snake (Richard) Ertel for bringing the Word last Sunday.  If you missed his talk – “Faith Takes a Step” – you can catch it here on our Gracetalks.org podcast or on our Youtube channel:

Developing a Kingdom Worldview, week 2

When I last taught on September 6th, I brought a message I called “Developing a Kingdom Worldview”.  Worldview, as depicted in the graphic above, is something like the lenses we look through as we experience our world.  Everybody has a worldview, but like our glasses, it’s not something that we usually are aware of.  Worldview comes from our culture, our family that raised us, and more, and it is the set of assumptions underlying how we perceive and evaluate reality.  A really important componet of our discipleship to Jesus is that we develop A Kingdom Worldview, and learn to see reality the way Jesus does (which is usually very different than the worldview we have grown up with).  My burden in these talks is 1) that we become aware that we all see the world through a worldview lens, 2) that we question the integrity of our lenses, and 3) that we pursue changing our lens to a Kingdom Worldview.  Or, as the Bible puts it, “that you be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)  If you possibly have time, I’d recommend you listen at least to the intro of 1st week, which I’ll drop right here in audio and video format:

Our ladies have just returned from the one day conference in Yorba Linda.  Kim tells me it was a great day! And now, I’m happy to tell you we can start looking forward to our upcoming Women’s Retreat at Palomar Christian Conference Center November 6-8.  It will be here before you know it!

It’s called “Revival at the Well — Encountering the unfailing love of God, again”.  You’ll have worship with Ammee and the ladies of Grace, and teaching with Sommer Crayton. Sommer is a licensed minister, Christian coach, and founder of Set Apart Society — a women’s discipleship ministry devoted to helping women grow deeper in Christ — Sommer has a heart for biblical teaching, spiritual renewal, and authentic transformation. She encourages women to encounter God, embrace His truth, and live set apart for His purpose.

Solitude Practice Monday Nights in October

Coming up a week from Monday, we start our “Solitude” study in the “Practicing The Way” series.  A number of us went through the “Practicing The Way” materials this year, and now we are doing 4-week “Practice” groups that cover what have come to be known as “spiritual disciplines”.  If you want to become good at hitting a baseball, you will spend time at batting practice.  If you want to become a good piano player, you’ll practice arpeggios and scales.  Similarly if we want to grow as apprentices of Jesus, we can engage in various practices that help our spiritual muscle memory become more like Jesus.  Our next “Practice” in the Practicing the Way Course will be the practice of Solitude.  We’ll meet Monday nights beginning Monday, October 5th for 4 weeks, at Jeanie Isbell’s (3305 Belle Lane, Carlsbad) 6-8:30pm.  We’ll gather at 6pm for a meal and the study will begin at 6:30.  Workbooks are $15.  Please text Kim Ohst for more information 760-519-4558.  There will be a sign up table in the lobby.  I’d love it if you checked out the Practicing the Way material at https://www.practicingtheway.org/.

Encounter 2026 at Frontwave Arena

For the last 5 years, churches all over North County have been gathering in November at the Oceanside Pier Amphitheater for a night of worship called Encounter, and honestly, they’ve been really awesome events.  This year, the event is moving to Oceanside’s Frontwave Arena.  Check out this promo video made with some of our local pastors:

It takes place on November 8, at 6pm.  Put it on your calendars so you don’t forget! (Yes, I did notice that it takes place the same day our ladies are returning from their retreat on Palomar Mountain, so we’ll see who has enough energy to rock another worship night before they hit Monday!)

Missions Trip to Malaysia

We’re excited to send out another missions team!  This one will be to Malaysia October 11-November 3rd.  We have a 3-person team with Steve & Lisa Rogers and Mark Newell.  We all want to support them as they represent Grace Vineyard bringing the good news of Jesus and the power of God’s Kingdom to Malaysia.  We can support them in prayer, in the powerful simplicity of encouraging words, and in financial support. The budget for this trip is $4,000 per person; if you’d like to partner financially, you can make an online donation at gracevcf.org/donate-malaysia.  We’ve made a lot of progress on raising support for the trip cost the last few weeks, but we have a ways to go, so please praying about making a donation!

I look forward to being with you all for worship tomorrow morning!  If for some reason you are not able to join us in person, here’s the info you need for joining us online:  join us online on Zoom with this link Zoom Meeting ID  153 112 432, Passcode 684814 and you can also find our livestream on Facebook Live at facebook.com/gracevcf.

With love and blessings to each of you,

Ron Ohst

Tithes and Offerings Online

THANKS for taking ownership in the life and ministry of Grace Vineyard!  And thanks to all of you who are stepping into a lifestyle of generosity with your tithes and offerings.  It really does take all of us doing our part with the income God has entrusted to us for His church. If you’d like to give your tithe or offering online, click the donate button below.  If you’re giving to a specific fund (like benevolence or missions), just be sure to say that when you are given an option to add a note with your donation.
