Good evening, Grace Vineyard Family and Friends.

Here’s another, hopefully quick, Grace Vineyard weekly update for you.  First a quick preview of what I’m cooking up for tomorrow’s message.

Prayer – An Invitation to Deep Friendship with God

The last 3 times I’ve shared a message with you on Sundays have all been looking at the theme of Prayer from various angles.  We started with the idea “Prayer is the key that unlocks every door”.  The next week we looked at the posture of Humility | Faith | Reverence | Awe in which we approach prayer.  Then last week we talked about how awe-filled adoration shapes everything in our lives, including our prayer lives.  I really hope none of you are hearing a guilt laden “you should prayer more!” message, but instead are hearing a warm invitation into an exciting and fulfilling dimension of our relationship with God through prayer.  That’s my heart.  This week I’m discovering some scriptural pictures of deep friendship with God that I hadn’t seen before. I was surprised at this discovery, and I’ve done a little research to make sure I’m not stretching this imagery too far.  I’ll give you a little preview to get you thinking about it if you read this before Sunday morning.  In 1 Samuel 18:1, king Saul invites David to live in his palace and not go back home anymore after David’s defeat of Goliath.  As they are talking, the king’s son Jonathan loves David deeply (the Hebrew says very strongly that Jonathan’s soul was knit to the soul of David).  Jonathan is the heir to the throne but doesn’t cling to his royal privilege and instead gives David his own royal robe and armor.  I never saw before how this is a beautiful picture of what took place when The King (God) invited us to live in His house (His Kingdom) and how the King’s son loved us deeply, and gave us His robe of righteousness and His armor. The description of Jesus laying aside His privileges in Philippians 2 is a fascinating parallel.    I’m planning on exploring this imagery with us and looking at more scripture that describes our friendship with God.  I’m seeing the life of prayer, in addition to everything we’ve already talked about, as invitation into Deep Friendship with God.  What an amazing honor!  I hope you can join us tomorrow in person at 9:30 am, but if you can’t be there, here’s the info you need to join us online: join us online on Zoom with this link Zoom Meeting ID  153 112 432, Passcode 684814 and you can also find our livestream on Facebook Live at facebook.com/gracevcf.
