Good morning Grace Vineyard Family and Friends,
It’s Saturday afternoon here in Lusaka, Zambia. Those of you that have been following along know that I left California on July 19th along with my great friend Paul Dabdoub, and we’ve been on quite a journey ministering in Vineyard churches in 3 of the 10 Zambia Provinces. We saw a lot of healings, encouraging, comforting, and edifying prophetic words, pastors and congregations deeply encouraged, ministry to the very poor, young people fired up and challenged to take their place in the Kingdom, leadership and ministry training, and more. We finished off in the Copperbelt Province in the Ndola Vineyard church earlier this week. Paul returned home on the same day a 2nd team left California to join me at Breath of Heaven Children’s Village.
Here’s the a team – Emilio, Haleah, Andrea, Bryce, Kim, Traci, and Irene – in front of the plane for their final flight from South Africa to Lusaka. This time their 19 suitcases zipped through Zambia customs without any trouble. On so many trips when we are carrying gifts for Breath of Heaven, Customs stops and extracts a bity of duty to alow us through, but this time they just waved the team through.
Everybody on the team has been awesome and immediately dove into playing with the kids of BOH. It is such a blessing.
We’ll be here until August 17.
Right now Kim and I are driving to Siseho Minyoi’s home, past of the Vineyard church in Lusaka. I will be speaking at their church in morning, participating in a baptism right after church, and then returning to Breath of Heaven. And next Saturday I’ll get to officiate my first Zambian wedding – our son Mika is getting married, and I’m being given the honor of officiating their wedding!

The Kingdom has Come Near
Week 1: The Announcement
If you’ve ever read C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia, you can almost get excited just by hearing the phrase, “Aslan is on the move!” Aslan is a giant lion in these children’s stories, and his character represents Jesus Christ in the stories. If you’ve never read them, I bet you’d enjoy them. To say, “Aslan is on the move” is almost akin to hearing “The Kingdom of God is Near” in the Gospels. Steve’s topic for the next 2 weeks is “The Kingom Has Come Near”. In week 1, The Announcement, Steve will be spending some time at Luke 4:14-30, where Jesus announces what God is doing:
Luke 4:14-30
14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.
16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21 and he began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.
23 Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself! Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.'”
24 “I tell you the truth,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown. 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed — only Naaman the Syrian.”
28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him down the cliff. 30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.
