September 4, 2021
Hello Grace Vineyard and Friends,
Welcome to September and Labor Day weekend! It’s time for our weekly update.
I hope you’ve had another wonderful week in beautiful San Diego County. As we go into September, I think we are entering one of the most beautiful times of the year here. Usually right after Labor day, the tourists start to go home, and our beautiful beaches become much more sparsely populated and peaceful. This would be a good month for you to take a walk on the beach and enjoy some sweet fellowship with the Lord! There’s nothing quite like the vastness of the ocean to remind us of the greatness of our creator. Worship Him!
Just a couple of things to note as we go into this new month: our month men’s breakfast and our monthly lady’s walk are both postponed this month. In lieu of the breakfast, the men will be meeting with our men’s ministries in our region for the Big Texas BBQ on September 13th.
Men – our Regional Men’s gathering with a Big Texas BBQ (they’re telling me it’s all-you-can-eat!) is just a week away. If you can come, please send a quick note to Ron Hartnett at email@example.com to let him know you’re coming. He’d also appreciate your name and mobile number in that email so he can let you know about future regional men’s ministry events. Men, while I have your attention, please remember that we are making plans for a return to Palomar Mountain for our Men of Grace Retreat, March 18-20. It’s still some months away, but we need to know soon if you’ll be going so we can reserve your space at the conference center. Contact Snake (Richard) Ertel for more info at 760-622-4572 or firstname.lastname@example.org for all the details. Note that if you send the church $20 every month starting now, when you get to March you’ll have the retreat registration already paid for! Just mention “Men’s Retreat” in the memo line of a check, or in the notes area of an online donation.
Taking Care of Orphans
One of the missions that is very close to our hearts at Grace is Breath of Heaven Children’s Ministries in Zambia, Africa. We have partnered with this organization since it’s beginning, and have watched through the years as little children were rescued from abject poverty and given a hope and a future. Those first kids are now in college! What a joy it has been to see this ministry flourish. Coming up on Saturday, September 18th, we are having our annual fundraising event. I hope many of you will come. You’ll hear amazing stories of what is happening at Breath of Heaven, and be given an opportunity to support this ministry.
I’ll repeat what I wrote in last week’s update one more time – I want to remind you all how much your partnership means. Our church family is built from each of us partnering with our time, energy, and money. If you’d like to partner with us with your time and energy, check out this graphic, and contact the person who oversees a ministry you might be interested in serving in.

Last Sunday in The Gospel of Grace Series
Hasn’t it been great reading through Galatians together these many weeks?! We’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of the phrase we borrowed from Gary Kinnaman’s book on Galatians – “Jesus + nothing = everything”. I’m starting to see shirts around the room on Sunday morning with that message, and I love it (Thanks, Michael!) This Sunday we’ll bring our series to a close with Paul’s final words. Here’s the key verse of this section:
14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is a new creation. 16 Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule, even to the Israel of God.
The phrase that really grabs my attention is “what counts is a new creation.” We’ve talked from time to time about how the promise of new creation (God renewing heaven and earth to a perfect, glorious state) has been set into motion by the resurrection of Jesus. But what does that look like in practical terms for us. What does it mean to live a new creation kind of life right here and now in 2021? We’ll explore that together – I hope you’ll join us at 9:30. We will be on Zoom for those who can’t join us in person. Here’s the info you need: Zoom Meeting ID 153 112 432, Passcode 684814. You may also join us on Facebook Live at facebook.com/gracevcf.
Sunday Nights at Grace
And don’t forget to check out Sunday Nights at Grace at 6pm. This is a more intimate gathering for sharing in Worship, The Word, Fellowship, and Spirit Empowered prayer ministry. Pastor Steve Rogers is leading this service, so if you’d like to know more about it, or find out how you can serve, please contact Steve at 760-500-4324 or email@example.com. This week Steve will be continue teaching in his series on Luke and Acts.
Have a great rest of your weekend, and I’ll see you on Sunday morning.
Blessings and love to each of you,
