Hello Grace Vineyard and Friends of Grace,

It’s the first Friday in June!  I don’t know about you, but when I look at that date I immediately remember this day in June 41 years, back in 1982….my high school graduation.  That week was extra significant for me because not only did I graduate from high school, I moved from Phoenix to Oceanside the day after my graduation into a very different culture than I was accustomed to.  I quickly came to love it here!  Like in 2 seconds!! 🙂 Exchanging the extreme heat, flat landscape, dust storms and tumble weeds of the Arizona desert for the hills, beaches, and cool, damp ocean breezes of North County San Diego was so great.  (I’m sure with a little effort I could draw some comparison between that move and our entrance into the Kingdom of God, but I’ll save that for another day.) Rather amazingly, I’ve been reconnecting with family friends we made that first year, and some of them have even started worshipping with us at Grace Vineyard recently.  June is a great month.  I hope you’re able to enter into the joy of this season too.

We usually have a bunch of ways to enter into life at Grace Vineyard, and this week is no exception, so let me dive into this week’s email update. I’ll try to keep this chronological…

Church Cleaning, Saturday at Noon

This Saturday, we are meeting at noon at the church to clean it in preparation for our Sunday gathering.  Our cleaning company rather abruptly stopped showing up, so while we are searching for a new cleaning service, we need to roll up our sleeves and do this the old fashioned way — VOLUNTEERS!  We actually used to do all our cleaning with a volunteer cleaning crew when we first moved into the theater, so I know we can handle it for a couple of weeks.  If you have any questions, please call or text Steve Rogers at 760-500-4324.

Finding Strength

What do you do when circumstances have gotten so bad that it seems there’s now way out?   Where and how do you find the strength to go on?  Steve Rogers is going to bring a message on Sunday morning called “Finding Strength” to answer those questions.  He’s going to start with a story about David in 1 Samuel 30 where all hope seemed gone. “But David found strength in the Lord his God, ”  according to the story found there, and a hopeless situation was transformed into a major victory that turned into some of the building blocks that later were foundational in David’s role as the future king of Israel.  I hope you’ll join us for some practical training for life in Christ.

By the way, we’ve put last week’s message up on youtube.  We heard from special guest Jay Pathak, national director of the Vineyard in the US via video, and it was an awesome message for Pentecost Sunday.  Unfortunately, technical difficulties made us miss the last minutes of his message.  You can get the whole thing right here:

Ladies Beach Walk & Men’s Breakfast June 10

A week from tomorrow on Saturday, June 10, we have our monthly Women of Grace walk/hike.  This month Kathy Green is leading the ladies on a Carlsbad Beach Walk.  Please join the ladies at the grassy area at Pine Ave. and Carlsbad Blvd at 9am.  If you would like to go, please let Kathy know – call/text Kathy at 760.583.1779.

Also on June 10, we have our monthly Men’s Breakfast at Ty’s Burgerhouse at 515 Mission Ave (around the corner from the church).  We have a great breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and biscuits and gravy. So Good! After some great fellowship over breakfast with our brothers from Grace, we worship together and enjoy an inspiring message.  This month we have a guest speaker named Bob Nealon.  I’ve spent time getting to know Bob and the ministry work he does around North County, so I can tell you I’m sure you’re going to be inspired.  Join us at 8am next Saturday!

Celebrate our Graduates After Church June 11

We want to celebrate everyone who is graduating this year, so we are going to have a BBQ a week from this Sunday, June 11, right after church.  We’ll have a few grills outside the church where will grill up burgers and hot dogs, and we’ll have all the delicious side dishes that you’ll be bringing.  There will be a sign up table in the lobby after church this Sunday, so be sure and sign up to bring something for us to share.  Think of picnic sides – things that don’t need to be heated up, so we won’t have to have a crew working through the service this time to keep food hot like we typically do for our after church potlucks.  It will be another great hangout time with all our Grace family!

Register for “Golf For Hope”

The last thing I want to tell you about is the “Golf For Hope” golf tournament fundraiser coming up in July for Convicted for Christ.  Most of you will remember that Richard “Snake” Ertel and Michael Aplikowsky lead a nonprofit organization in Oceanside called Convicted for Christ.  You can check out https://www.convicted4christ.org to learn some more about their great work here in North County (or just ask Snake or Michael after church on Sunday, and I’m sure they’ll be happy to tell you lots of great stories).  They currently run one sober living home where men are working on recovery from addiction, and they are looking for their next home to purchase so they can minister to more men.  They also do a ton of street ministry among the homeless in North County and are constantly seeing transformation in the lives of the people they are encountering.  In fact, several people from our congregation regularly join the team from Convicted for Christ during the week, and I would encourage you to join them if at all possible.  Please sign up for “Golf For Hope” by emailing Snake at richard@convicted4christ.org, or going to the website https://www.convicted4christ.org.

Note that if you don’t golf, you can come to the dinner portion of the event for only $25!

And that’s it for this week’s weekly update.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

with blessings and love,

Ron Ohst

Tithes and Offerings Online

THANKS for taking ownership in the life and ministry of Grace Vineyard!  And thanks to all of you who are stepping into a lifestyle of generosity with your tithes and offerings.  It really does take all of us doing our part with the income God has entrusted to us for His church. If you’d like to give your tithe or offering online, click the donate button below.

P.S.

Don’t forget we’re needing to build up our building fund for some important improvements around our Grace Vineyard home.  If you’d like to give a special offering, just make sure to mention “building fund” in the “what’s this donation for” section of the online giving system.  Thanks!
