Hello and Happy Friday to all you Grace Vineyard Friends.

I wish you could have smelled what I smelled in my kitchen this morning.  Charissa and her cat Ophelia (can you find her in the collage of pictures here?) were baking mini cakes for this Sunday’s Youth Bake sale and my mouth was watering.

Youth Bake Sale This Sunday

I don’t know what the rest of the folks from our youth ministry are bringing, but I know Kim, Charissa (with Ophelia’s help), and Bryce will be bringing mini-cakes, brownies, Lavender cookies, Salsa and Pesto from the Ohst Kitchen.  I’m definitely biased, but I’m convinced Kim’s homemade fresh salsa and pesto are the absolute best on the planet!  I’ve also heard that Lisa Rogers is bringing her famous Banana Bread.  So here’s the point — you gotta come to church this Sunday and support our Jr High and High School students at their bake sale.  Let’s buy them out.  They’ll use the funds for all the fun stuff they do on Wednesday nights (and more) at Generation Grace.

Galatians – The Gospel of Grace

Here’s another thing to look forward to this Sunday.   We’re going to start a new study in the book of Galatians.   We’ve been talking about theme “The Greatness of The Gospel” the last few weeks, and now we’re going to do a book study through Paul’s letter to the Galatians where this theme is more fully developed.   This little book in the New Testament is so important – its impact on Martin Luther led to  the Reformation, which in turn molded the history of western civilization over the last 500 years.  As I often tell you, this book is another one of those short reads – just a few pages in your Bible.  So, I’d recommend you prepare for Sunday by opening up your Bible to Galatians and see if you can read the whole letter (or at least read through the first page or two, which will take you through the first 2-3 chapters).

Communion This Sunday

As we launch into Galatians, it is totally fitting that we  celebrate the Lord’s Supper together.  So, if you will be joining us from home online this Sunday, please prepare for communion with some sort of juice and cracker or bread.  Of course the good news on the covid19 front is that the number of infections and hospitalizations continues to remain low and California is on course to be fully open on June 15, so we expect to see more and more people feeling safe enough to return to in person worship gatherings.  I think that’s great news!  There’s something very special about being together as a church family.  We’re still broadcasting our services on zoom and Facebook Live; here’s the info you need for joining us online:

Preparing With Prayer for Sunday Nights at Grace

Here’s some more exciting news – we are planning on launching a Sunday Night service in mid-July.  It will be at the church and it will have its own unique feel — we’ll have live worship, we’ll use the video from that Sunday morning teaching for our time in the Word, and depending on the number of people who come, we’ll be able to have interactive discussion as well.  Of course we’ll have ministry time with prayer and space for the Holy Spirit to come and have his way  with his wonderful Presence.  We’re working on details like childcare too.  In preparation, we’re going to start praying together on Sunday nights from 6-7pm, beginning Sunday, May 30th at the church.  We’d love for all of you to join us!  If you have any questions, contact Steve Rogers, 760-500-4324 or srogers@gracevcf.org.

It’s Time to Register for Activate Love

I’ve been telling you about our upcoming Activate Love workshop, and now it’s time to register as it’s only one week away on Saturday, May 29th.  A Huge value of Grace Vineyard is “everyone gets to play”, meaning that we don’t have a few “professional” ministers who get do the fun stuff of ministry; instead we want every one of us to be equipped, trained, and empowered to do the ministry of Jesus.  Please register today by going to https://www.gracevcf.org/activate-love where you can also find more details.  We become a much stronger church as more and more of us are able to minister the Kingdom of God in the power of the Spirit.

Step into Service

Last week I mentioned the concept that our commitment to Christ and his Church can be measured in terms of the Three T’s: our Time, our Talent, and our Treasure.   And, as a guy who’s been hanging around the church for about 5 decades now, I can tell you quite confidently that personal growth and joy always come with the commitment of time, talent, and treasure.  We take our natural strengths and abilities and spend our time using them to do the work of the ministry along with others in our church community, as well as growing in generosity with the stewardship of tithes and offerings.  If you’ve gotten to know me, you could probably guess what I’m gonna say next…my goal as a pastor is to see every one of us who calls Grace Vineyard our home moving in this direction.  That’s how we become a great church for Jesus.   Here’s a list of serving areas where you can get involved, and the people to contact by text or giving them a call:

  • Clubhouse Grace (children’s ministry) — Debbie 760-754-2974
  • Jr Hi and High School Student Ministry — Lisa 760-696-1994
  • First Impressions — Susan 760-419-2273
  • Worship — Ammee 760-254-8008
  • Bread of Life (Mercy) — Venita 760-573-4429
  • Ushers, Security, Tech, Building, and everything else — Steve 760-500-4324

If Grace Vineyard is your home and you haven’t stepped into service yet, there’s no better time than the present to take the plunge! Reach out to one of these folks this weekend and watch what happens to your heart.

That’s all for this week’s update.  Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.  Don’t forget to bring some dollars for the youth bake sale!

Blessings and love,

Ron Ohst

Tithes and Offerings Online

Thank you for your generosity and faithfulness! We could not do what we do without you. We believe God has chosen to meet the material needs of His church through the tithes and offerings of His people. (Tithe means literally 1/10 or 10% of our income). We encourage everybody to be committed to a church family, and if Grace Vineyard is where you are committed, we’ve provided this online tool for you; click on the “donate” button below to get started. (Note: if you’re giving an offering for the building fund or the benevolence fund in addition to your tithe, please mention that in the notes section after you land on our paypal page). THANKS for taking ownership in the life and ministry of Grace Vineyard – it takes all of us!
