January 19, 2024

Hello Grace Vineyard Family!

It’s time for our weekly update email, so let’s get right to it…

Our first two Sundays of 2024 sure have been inspirational with our “Jesus says, ‘Go!'” theme. On the first Sunday we had special guest Brooke Cerny, and then Damas Kamfwa from Zambia joined us via video last Sunday.  I’ll drop their talks right here in case you missed them or want to listen again…

First, here’s Damas Kamfwa from last Sunday, talking about Jesus’ model for doing ministry.  His message is fairly short, just under 20 minutes, and after his talk I get up and talk about my heart for mission with a little personal backstory about how we became a church with such a strong emphasis on global missions.

And here’s Brooke Cerny from the first Sunday of the month talking about how God uses the least likely among us to advance his kingdom throughout the nations.  Her message is entitled “Everyone is Called to Go.”

Coming up this Sunday we are excited to bring in another great guest…actually, TWO great guests: Duke and Marie Lancaster.

Duke and Marie have a pretty interesting title – “Birds in the Branches”.  It’s taken from the words of Jesus in Matthew 13:31-33

31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”
33 He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds[b] of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

Duke and Marie plan on sharing lots of stories from their years doing Kingdom ministry.  They want us to know that the Kingdom of God is continuously advancing. God is winning. Don’t become disheartened by the noise around you.

Here’s a little more about their background: Duke and Marie Lancaster have been in the Vineyard since 1992. Marie grew up in a Hungarian household, the daughter of an Assembly of God pastor and church planter. Marie says that she knew she never wanted to be married to a pastor and when she met Duke while they were attending Oral Roberts University she was certain he was the last person God would ever call into ministry, so she married him. God used a mission trip to Colombia to radically impact Duke and he felt God call him to pastor. Together they embraced a call to ministry and missions and never looked back. They have traveled the world doing ministry and Duke has led the Colombia partnership for the past 5 years. They have planted 3 churches and were the Senior Pastors of Vineyard Church of Jackson, Mississippi for ten years, stepping down at the end of 2021 to pursue a desire to travel itinerantly to equip the saints in Holy Spirit ministry and to encourage and strengthen leaders. They have been married over 39 years and delight in their 4 children and 5 grandchildren.

2024 Missions Pledges

It’s now time for us to renew our Missions Pledges. Funding for our missions program comes from people like you and me give special offerings for Missions, above and beyond our normal tithes.  Every January, we fill out pledge cards with the amount we plan on giving  to missions every month for the next year. Our Missions team then takes those pledges and commits to our missionaries for their support for the coming year.  So, please renew your pledge for 2024 by clicking here: gracevcf.org/pledge24.  If you prefer to fill out this form with paper and pen, you can pick up a brochure when you come into the building on Sundays.  Just drop it off in the offering when you have finished it.  Thank you!

Healing From the Inside Out

We are launching a new session of Healing from the Inside Out for women only, beginning Tuesday, February 6th at the church in the kids area at 7pm.  The goal of this group is to bring healing to the emotional pain that tends to drive our negative life choices.  It provides the opportunity to bring hurtful memories into the light and teaches tools needed to live an emotionally healthy life.  Group time consists of teaching and group processing. There is also some journaling homework.  Cost is $15 and includes a workbook.  Please contact Kim Ohst for more information 760.519.4558.  There will be a sign up in the church lobby.

Collecting Women’s Business-Casual Clothing

On Sundays we have a labelled bin in the lobby to collect women’s nice, business casual clothing.  We plan to do an outreach at a later date with these clothing items. Please call Kim Ohst at 760.519.4558 for more details.

Superbowl Party February 11

Whether your a football fan, or you just enjoy a good party, we have an event for you!  On Sunday, February 11th, beginning at 3pm, we are having a SuperBowl party.  We’ll be showing the game on the big screen, so that’s already fun, but we’ll also set up the terrace with tables and chairs for a gameday potluck.  And to make it more fun, we’ll have a Chili Cook-off, a Cornbread Cook-off, and a Dessert Cook-off.  There are prizes for each of the winners!  Please give Steve Rogers a call for more info.

And that’s it for this week’s update.  I hope to see you Sunday morning for another great time of worship and ministry.  If you have to be away for any reason you can still join us online via zoom with this info:  Zoom Meeting ID  153 112 432, Passcode 684814. You may also join us on Facebook Live at facebook.com/gracevcf.

With love and blessings to each of you,
