Hello Grace Vineyard and friends of Grace!

It’s Saturday, so I’m a bit later than usual for my weekly update – sorry if you were looking for it yesterday or this morning.  We say it all the time, but how quickly time flies!  I already feel like Christmas and New Year’s celebrations are far in the rear view mirror and 2024 is well underway.  I have a feeling you all probably feel the same way.  It was a great holiday season, and now we’re back on the adventure of being on Mission with God.

Last Sunday we launched our “Jesus Says, ‘GO!'” month of missions focus, it was great.  Even our worship songs turned our hearts and minds toward the world God has called us to reach with His love.  Our guest speaker was Brooke Cerny with a message entitled, “Everyone is Called to Go”.  If you could put her message into one sentence, it would be something like this, “God uses the least likely among us to advance his kingdom throughout the nations.”  If you’d like to watch again, here’s the video of her talk:

This Sunday we have a special treat. I asked my good friend Damas Kamfwa from Ndola, Zambia in Africa to preach on the Jesus Says Go! topic.  He couldn’t come in person this time (we hope that can happen in the future), so we’ll have him on the big screen.  His talk is fairly short, so I’m also going to be sharing briefly from my heart on Missions.  I think you’re really going to enjoy Damas.  He’s the national director of the Vineyard churches in Zambia and has become a good friend.  He also has been known to join many of our services on Facebook Live.  His talk is entitled, “Jesus’ Model for Doing Ministry”.

After Church Prayer

It’s the second Sunday of the month, and that means it’s time for all of us to join together in the ministry of prayer.  Probably one of the most underutilized, and also most powerful, spiritual tools we have is prayer.  The fact that I am alive today, and able to walk and talk and play the piano, is a direct result of answered prayer by many, many people.  Prayer Changes Things!  Sharon Evans leads this prayer meeting, and she has put together a really cool set up for us. She has a bunch of prayer stations set up around the terrace, and we each make a circuit around the stations, spending 5 minutes or so at each one. The prayer stations each have a prayer focus. This is an excellent way to stay engaged in prayer that is really helpful if you’re like me and find your mind wandering when you try to pray for an extended period of time. I’ll say it again: Prayer is powerful! Prayer is the strength and energy that is essential to making effective everything we do for the Lord. Please join us!

Healing From the Inside Out

We are launching a new session of Healing from the Inside Out for women only, beginning Tuesday, February 6th at the church in the kids area at 7pm.  The goal of this group is to bring healing to the emotional pain that tends to drive our negative life choices.  It provides the opportunity to bring hurtful memories into the light and teaches tools needed to live an emotionally healthy life.  Group time consists of teaching and group processing. There is also some journaling homework.  Cost is $15 and includes a workbook.  Please contact Kim Ohst for more information 760.519.4558.  There will be a sign up in the church lobby.

Collecting Women’s Business-Casual Clothing

Beginning this Sunday, we will have a labelled bin in the lobby to collect women’s nice, business casual clothing.  We plan to do an outreach at a later date with these clothing items. Please call Kim Ohst 760.519.4558 for more details.

Superbowl Party February 11

Whether your a football fan, or you just enjoy a good party, we have an event for you!  On Sunday, February 11th, beginning at 3pm, we are having a SuperBowl party.  We’ll be showing the game on the big screen, so that’s already fun, but we’ll also set up the terrace with tables and chairs for a gameday potluck.  And to make it more fun, we’ll have a Chili Cook-off, a Cornbread Cook-off, and a Dessert Cook-off.  There are prizes for each of the winners, so dust off your favorite recipes, get your chili pots ready, and may the odds be ever in your favor (I got zero comments last week for the Hunger Games reference… did anybody notice?!)  Please give Steve Rogers a call for more info.

And that’s it for this week’s update.  I hope to see you tomorrow morning for another great time of worship and ministry.  If you have to be away for any reason you can still join us online via zoom with this info:  Zoom Meeting ID  153 112 432, Passcode 684814. You may also join us on Facebook Live at facebook.com/gracevcf.

With love and blessings to each of you,

Ron Ohst
