Weekly Update 01-22-2021

Hi Grace Vineyard and Friends,

Here comes the rain!  I was just outside and it’s a little chilly, and I like it.  Rain is in the forecast.  That always sounds good when you live in a desert, and I’m just thinking it sounds good in a spiritual sense too.  If the “outpouring” of the Spirit on God’s people can be described with water metaphors – “filled up”, “poured out”, “overflowing”, “like rivers of living water” – then I say, “Let It Rain!”.

We’ll be meeting in our online format this Sunday again, and we’ll be taking another dive into understanding “The Good Life: What it is. How to experience it.  How to share it”  I hope you’re grabbing hold of these 5 words that are so effective at describing our life in Jesus’ Kingdom.  Love. Joy. Peace. Hope. Faith.  If you look away from your device right now, can you say them by memory?  Give it a try.  Here’s a quick refresher on how we defined them when we were last together:

Love – immersed in the safety of loving and being loved by God and a community of people who are for me, and are intentional about promoting my good

Joy a pervasive sense of well-being (which is a delightful way to live!)

Peace – the prosperity of a soul at rest, without the need for striving

Hope – the anticipation of good that is still unseen

Faithconfidence grounded in reality that enables us to “see” the unseen good that we hope for

We’re also planning on streaming the Zoom meeting on Facebook live for those who can’t join our zoom meeting;  just go to our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/gracevcf.  We’ll be worshiping via zoom, so we’ve made the lyrics available for the songs we plan on singing for our worship time by clicking here: gracevcf.org/lyrics. (You might want to print them before Sunday so they’re handy).

Worship in the Park

There is something so special and life-giving about worshiping the Lord together, so since it’s still too cold to meet together outside for our Sunday morning meeting, we thought we’d plan a worship gathering in the park later in the day when the sun has warmed things up.  We’ll meet at 2pm at Buddy Todd park on January 31st for worship.  It won’t be like a regular church service, but will just be a simple, unplugged, time of worship and enjoying the Lord’s Presence.  If you play the guitar or some other portable instrument and would like to bring it, please do.  You’ll need to bring your own chairs or blankets, drinks, etc.

Online Connections

I want to highlight the fact that we always have small groups going online throughout the week.  Some of the groups last for several weeks and are only advertised before they start.  For example there’s almost always a women’s Bible Study going and a Men’s “Authentic Manhood” group going.  If you’d like to be in on those invites, send a message to Kim Ohst for women’s groups– 760-519-4558, kimohst@gmail.com, or to Snake (Richard) Ertel for men’s groups — 760-622-4572, rertel777@gmail.com.

We also have a zoom prayer meeting Tuesday – Thursday mornings at 7-8am where we spend a few minutes reading a Bible passage and then pray for current needs.  Join that meeting with this zoom link: Meeting ID: 812 2225 0027, Password: 006314.  Speaking of prayer, if you ever have a need you’d like people to be praying for, just send us a note at prayer@gracevcf.org, and a team of people will begin praying for your need!

On Wednesday and Thursday evenings we have 2 home groups on zoom, led by Michelle Ertel on Wednesday and Michael Aplikowsky on Thursday, both at 7pm.  Here are the zoom links for them:

Wednesday Home Group (7:00pm-9:00pm): Meeting ID: 422 082 264 Password: 955746

Thursday Home Group (7:00pm): Meeting ID: 480 203 1063 Password: surrender

I hope you’ll make it a priority to visit one of these small groups some time soon…how about next week?!

Youth Group Outdoor Gatherings

Did you know we have an awesome Jr High and High School ministry led by our youth pastor, Lisa Rogers, along with her husband Steve Rogers who serves both as our assistant pastor and co-youth pastor.

Well, thanks to the hospitality of the Frye family, who have an awesome back yard, we have an outdoor place where our youth can safely meet in person. They meet every Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the Frye’s backyard., 2044 Chestnut Ave, Carlsbad.

If you have youth in your family, or are friends with some youth who might enjoy a Jesus-centered fun time, please contact Lisa at lrogers@gracevcf.org, or Steve at srogers@gracevcf.org, 760-500-4324.

Building Refurbishing

It’s time to begin the next phase in refurbishing this beautiful theater God has blessed us with, so it will be in great condition for when we are able to open up for indoor gatherings.  I can’t wait for that day!!  The next projects are flooring – both outside and inside.  Our current goal is to raise $20,000, and I have no doubt we can do that easily.  Those of you who know about flooring costs recognize that price is very low for all flooring we have.  VERY LOW!  That’s because we are going to use the power of volunteerism to do all the non-skilled labor we can.  Last week we let you know that because we have confidence in your generosity,  as soon as we raise the first $5,000 we will pull the trigger and get to work on the inside.  When that happens, we’ll be inviting you to a join us for a workday where we will pull up all the carpet in the lobby and sanctuary, so we can save as much money as possible on the installation.  Here’s something to think about: my family received $1,800 ($600 for 3 people) in the first stimulus earlier this month, and we are told we we’re soon going to receive another $1,400 each. My wife and I are both still employed, so in our case we just got an extra pile of cash that we can use to donate to the building fund.  If you’re in a similar situation, you might consider doing the same thing.  At minimum, people who practice tithing on their income will be tithing extra this month as they receive their stimulus money, so I expect we are going to be in great shape for this next phase of refurbishing!  Of course, we’ve also got the power of prayer on our side…please join us in praying that once again all our needs will be met abundantly.  To make your donation to the building fund, either send a check with “Building Fund” in the memo line to 102 N. Freeman St., Oceanside, CA, or give online by clicking here: building-fund donation.

That’s it for this week’s Grace Vineyard Update.   See you Sunday morning online!

Blessings and love,

Ron Ohst

Tithes and Offerings Online

Thank you for your generosity and faithfulness! We could not do what we do without you. We believe God has chosen to meet the material needs of His church through the tithes and offerings of His people. (Tithe means literally 1/10 or 10% of our income). We encourage everybody to be committed to a church family, and if Grace Vineyard is where you are committed, we’ve provided this online tool for you; click on the “donate” button below to get started. (Note: if you’re giving an offering for the building fund or the benevolence fund in addition to your tithe, please mention that in the notes section after you land on our paypal page). THANKS for taking ownership in the life and ministry of Grace Vineyard – it takes all of us!
