Hello Grace Vineyard Family and Friends of Grace Vineyard,
Jet lag is for real! 🙂 Our Zambia team has now been back in California for an entire week, and I think most of us are almost back to Pacific Standard Time….finally. Hopefully no more falling asleep during daytime and fully waking at night! I did get to see most of you last Sunday morning for a wonderful Grace Vineyard church service, and I’m hoping to see the rest of you tomorrow. Our team will be sharing stories with you from our trip to Africa.
This is a photo of our team + 6 of the older kids from Breath of Heaven praying for people at a community outreach we did with Bridgepoint Vineyard church in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia. If you scan the photo you’ll see about 6 clusters of people spread throughout this crowd ministering in prayer to folks from the community who came out for the event. People we’re given clothing and large food packs (one item was a 50 lb bag of mielie-meal, a food staple there), plus there was live music and a Gospel message to which many responded with their prayer to receive Jesus into their lives as Lord and Savior! Then our team and the kids from Breath of Heaven interspersed throughout the crowd to bring prayers of healing and blessing. It was awesome! On Sunday morning our team – Traci Blagg, Michelle Ertel, Lisa Steenberg, Bryce Ohst, Kim Ohst, and myself – are planning on sharing a few stories about our time in Zambia. There is so much life at Breath of Heaven that we’d like to share with you, and we’re so thankful to be part of a sending church that empowered us to go.
I’ve been reflecting on how we followers of Jesus can come together to make a Real Impact in our world, and I’ve taken a little liberty with our Grace Vineyard motto – “Real God | Real People |Restoring Lives” – in coming up with a title for our time together tomorrow – “Real God | Real People | Real Impact”. My thought is that when we enter into the “koinoia” kind of fellowship that we’ve talked about a lot this year, deep fellowship and partnership with each other and with the Holy Spirit, we become a people that can make a significant impact in our world to bring the blessing of the Kingdom of God into the lives of people we encounter. Our partnership with Breath of Heaven to bring hope and a future to orphans in Zambia is a prime example of this dynamic, as well as all the Kingdom work that we participate in locally here in San Diego. What a joy! If you’re not familiar with Breath of Heaven here’s a recent video update:
Tomorrow the founders and directors of Breath of Heaven, Ted and Judy Lawler, along with some of their team, will have a table with more info and opportunities for you to partner with them to make a Real Impact for Jesus in our world. I hope many of you will take advantage of this opportunity. Our family has, and it is an absolute joy for us.
Please make every effort to come together for more “koinonia” fellowship tomorrow morning at Grace Vineyard. If your circumstances prohibit you from joining us, we’ll also be available on line via zoom. I asked Kim if there were any announcements she’d like me to share from the Women’s ministry, and indeed there are:
