Hello Grace Vineyard and Friends of Grace Vineyard,

It’s time to start a new weekend and that means it’s time for me to write a new Weekly Update email.

It’s been a few weeks since we began to experience a tangible shift in the life of our church family.  We began re-thinking of ourselves as a church planting team — a group of people, called by God, fully engaged, tremendously resourced, here to impact our region with the blessings of the Kingdom of God.  Many of us “renewed the contract”.  Adopting an All-In mentality, we re-committed our lives to three ideas: 1) to loving Jesus passionately and growing in Him, 2) to inviting people to follow Jesus with us at Grace Vineyard, and 3) to generously giving of our time, our talent, and our treasure for the mission of Jesus through His church.  I think I would do well to simply remind us of those re-commitments, so we will keep pressing in.  Remember, we have a beautiful vision of what the future looks like: for people everywhere to know and worship Jesus in all His goodness and glory.

One of the movements we’ve seen stirring amongst us is in the area of prayer, coupled with the Lord answering our prayers quickly.  He doesn’t always do that, but we’re hearing reports of people asking the Lord and Him responding quickly with His Yes to our requests.  My advice – jump in, the water’s nice!  We’ll be doing one more hour long fasting & prayer meeting after church this coming Sunday (we’re inviting people to fast lunch, that’s all).  We are hosting the Oceanside House of Prayer from 6-8pm on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month, and every Thursday at noon-1pm.  Plus, we have a zoom prayer meeting Tues-Thurs mornings at 7am  Meeting ID: 812 2225 0027, Password: 006314

Prayer Empowered Living part 2 This Sunday

This Sunday I’m planning on continuing to explore what the Bible teaches about prayer.  So far we’ve learned some important principles:

  • prayer changes the course of history
  • sometimes God wants us to persevere in prayer when the answer to what we believe He wants to give us is delayed
  • God invites us to be importunate (shamelessly bold) in our requests
  • sometimes God in His sovereignty determines that prayer is not only effective but also necessary as He partners with us to accomplish His will, so prayer is the #1 strategy of churches who fulfill the mission of Jesus.

If you’d like to watch the sermon from last week, you can find it right here:

On Sunday I plan to read some teaching of Jesus on prayer in John 15 where He connects the promise of fruitfulness from abiding in Him to prayer.  Check it out –

John 15:7-8
7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

(For the convenience of those who cannot join us in person, here’s the zoom info for joining us online: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/153112432?pwd=WlJjbWZNeHo0NXBKM0VvbDkrYXV2QT09, Meeting ID: 153 112 432, Password: 684814)

Here’s some upcoming events I want to make sure you’re aware of:

Make & Bake Sale May 29

Our Women’s Ministry is raising funds for everything from Bible study materials to retreat scholarships.  On May 29th, we’ll have a Make & Bake sale.  Notice the “Make” part of that title – that means we’d love anything you’d like to donate for this sale: items you bake, buy or otherwise create. If you’d like to help set up, sell or clean up, please let Kim Ohst know by emailing or texting or calling her at kimohst@gmail.com/760-519-4558. There will be a sign up in the lobby on Sunday.

Save The Date – After Church Potluck on June 5

Coming up in a few Sundays, we’ll have a “Fellowship Lunch” (a.k.a. Potluck!) right after church on June 5th.  We love every chance we can get to hang out together, and sharing a meal is one of the great ways to do that.  Susan Franke and her team will have a table set up after church this Sunday where you can go and learn more about the details.  For now, make sure to put this date on your calendar.

Zambia Fundraiser Dinner and Raffle

On June 6th we have another way to enjoy some great fellowship AND raise money for orphans in Zambia.  We’re putting on a Fundraiser Dinner & Raffle on Monday, June 6th at Ty’s Burgerhouse.  Michelle Ertel and Lisa Steenberg will be at a table in the lobby after church this Sunday to sell you your $15 ticket for dinner.  We’re also gonna have a raffle with some great prizes that we are collecting.  We might even have raffle tickets available this Sunday (or definitely the next) so you can get in on the raffle even before the dinner. 100% of the proceeds will go to support the kids at Breath of Heaven Children’s Village where a team of us including Michelle Ertel, Lisa Steenberg, Kim (Ohst), Bryce (Ohst), and myself will be serving in July.

Women’s Retreat October 21-23

We’re going to Pine Valley this year.  More details will be released in the coming months, but we wanted to give you the pricing so you can begin to save for the retreat.  You can make payments weekly or monthly. just be sure to make note that the payment is for the retreat when you contribute online or in person at church.  Costs: $210 private bath lodge, $190 shared bath lodge, $165 dorm room.

Southern California Vineyard Regional Retreat

The Central and Southern California regional conference is coming up on June 23-25th at Inland Vineyard Church in Corona, CA.  It’s time to get together with our Vineyard family here in California!  We’ll worship, enjoy who we are as the Vineyard, pray for one another, and laugh and connect as we always have.  Find all the information and register at https://www.inlandvineyard.org/regional-conference.  It really is getting close, so I encourage you to register ASAP.  I have, and I hope a bunch of you will join me for a really great conference together.  Many of you don’t know a lot about the Vineyard movement that our church is part of, and I think you’ll be really inspired and filled with vision for the future as we come together with our Vineyard family from Central and Southern California.

And that’s it for this week’s update.  Please continue to pray for the Lord to empower our inviting and provide for all our needs.  See you Sunday morning.

With love and blessings,

Ron Ohst
