April 20, 2024

Greetings, Grace Vineyard Family and Friends,

Whenever April 20th comes around, my thankful meter hits it’s FULL mark.  This is now the 6th anniversary of my experiencing a profound miracle and season of Grace.  The event actually began the night before, on Thursday, April 19, 2018,  at our weekly home group.  Shannon Frye had a vision during worship. For brevity I’ll just mention the meaning of the vision – I wasn’t safe, the group should pray for me, and the Lord’s message for me was that I would stop and rest at the oasis.  Less than 12 hours later I would be in an ambulance on my way to the emergency room at Tri City Medical Center.  My left vertebral artery, 1 of  4 blood vessels that supplies blood to the brain, was “completely sheered and closed off. It was dissected,” (the words of neurologist Dr. Laura Desadier) and the result was 3 major strokes. Very quickly word got out on social media and people began praying for me here in San Diego and all over the world with people in Zambia, Kenya, Cambodia, Chile, China, Israel, and maybe some other places I’m not remembering.  God did a miracle that day and I am so grateful.  He is so worthy of our praise!  A few months later, Dr. Desadier joined me on Sunday morning to give a medical perspective of what happened, and I think you might enjoy watching the video of that talk, so here it is:

I apologize for how late in the week I’m sending this email.  I was in a Vineyard conference in Ohio this week, and just returned yesterday, so I’m a little bit behind my normal schedule.  Here’s info on what’s happening around Grace Vineyard.

National Day of Prayer

Every year on the first Thursday of May people across the United States gather together to pray for our nation.  This year, on May 2 at 6:00 PM we will be meeting at the El Corazon Senior Center Courtyard, 3302 Senior Center Dr, Oceanside,  with people from all over Oceanside to pray.  Several of us local pastors will be leading out in prayer for various topics.  I hope you’ll join me!

Vineyard USA National Conference This Summer

I want to make sure you know about the Vineyard National Conference this Summer. Here’s the verbiage from the Vineyard USA website.

We are so excited to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Vineyard movement this year! Since 1974, when the first Vineyard Church gathered outside Los Angeles, we have seen God move among us, transform lives, and empower us with the Holy Spirit.

At this conference, we will reflect on the soil of our hearts and our movement, and the seeds God is still planting in both of these places.

By offering two locations and dates we hope that everyone – pastors, leaders, volunteers, and even those just curious about the Vineyard – will be able to gather together this summer for our conferences. We will have opportunities to spend time in worship, teaching, and prayer, as well as gather in smaller groups with people in similar ministry roles and life phases. And we are pleased to share that this year’s registration costs have been greatly reduced through our generous sponsors.

As they mentioned, the conference is in 2 locations this year – the WEST on June 17-20 in Denver, CO, and the EAST on July 15-18 in Cincinnati, OH.  I’m registered for the one in Denver, and I’d be delighted if some of you will join me.  These conferences are always excellent, and it is uniquely wonderful to gather with other like minded Vineyard friends from around the nation (and really, from around the world, because we always have international friends join us).

You can get all the information you need and register for the conference here:  https://conference.vineyardusa.org/

The Helmet of Salvation

Coming up this Sunday I will be back in Ephesians 6 with you, learning about the armor of God.  Last week we took a break from the series and heard a great message from Kent Franke on how to free ourselves from the box of misunderstanding we place God in.  The sermon was called “Letting God Out of the Box” and you can watch or listen to it right here:

or here for our audio podcast:

But as I said, this Sunday we will be back to speaking about the armor of God with a message on the Helmet of Salvation.

I think it could be said that the mind is the battle field of the spiritual war.  God has provided the Helmet of Salvation as protection for our minds when we are being attacked by the evil one.  We’ll take some time to think through how that works and what our role is in the process. I think you will be blessed.

I hope to see you at 9:30 for another encounter with thee Lord in worship.  If you are not able to be with us in person for some reason, you can always join online via the Zoom app with this info:  Zoom Meeting ID  153 112 432, Passcode 684814. You may also join us on Facebook Live at facebook.com/gracevcf.

God bless you richly!

with love,

Ron Ohst
