April 5, 2024

Hello Grace Vineyard Family and Friends,

Happy Friday to you.   What a great Easter service we had last Sunday!  I hope you enjoyed it too.  It’s always nice to welcome many guests like we had on Sunday.  Do you  know, as far as we can tell, all 500 of our Easter invitation cards we’re taken by you, and I assume that most of them were given away.  Thank you for doing that!  You are all getting quite good at “crossing the chicken line” and talking with your friends about the Lord.  Well done!  In case you were interested in hearing or sharing the sermon I gave, we have it now on both YouTube and our podcast.  Here’s the YouTube link:

TONIGHT: The Chosen Season 4, Ep. 3&4

Last Friday we showed The Chosen, Season 4, Episodes 1 & 2, and it was quite awesome!  This week we are showing Episodes 3 & 4 – that’s tonight, Friday April 5, at 6:30.  The Chosen is an immensely popular multi-season series depicting the life of Jesus and his disciples.  In Season 4, John the Baptist has been arrested and meets his tragic end, foreshadowing the fate Jesus himself will suffer at the end of his life. The disciples contend with conflicts and jealousies among themselves and must learn unfamiliar qualities of humility and forgiveness. And in the final episodes we experience the miracle of Lazarus being raised from the dead.   Tonight the youth group has the popcorn machine set up and ready to go, along with some sodas for sale.  Please bring a couple extra bucks with you to buy popcorn and a soda, and support our youth ministry!

Episodes 5-8 have not been released to us yet; there is some sort of delay.  When they do eventually get released, we plan on showing them on Saturday afternoons at 4pm.

Jesus Walk is Tomorrow Morning!

Our next “Jesus Walk” will be on Saturday, April 6th – tomorrow morning.   Everybody will meet at the parking structure in downtown Oceanside at the corner of Seagaze and Cleveland at 10am.  From there we’ll walk North toward the pier along the strand, and play it completely by ear.  We hope to have one or more of our guitar playing worship people walking with us so we will sing some worship songs along the way.  We’ll encounter people and cross the “chicken line” and have some “holy hello’s”, some great conversations, some opportunities to share with people, and some opportunities to pray with people.  I hope a bunch of us will join Mark Newell on this adventure.  If you have a question, reach out to Mark with a text or call at 760) 715-1611.

Evangelism at Huntington Beach Pier April 13th

Our good friend Nicko Ostby called me with a great opportunity.  I’ll let you hear his words: “Hey Ron! I’m gonna be leading a time of street evangelism 3pm to 5pm at Huntington Beach Pier on Saturday, April 13th! Dinner with everyone at 5pm.6pm music & ministry night at Sur Coffee, Huntington Beach! Would you or any of your congregation want to join us for some evangelism etc?”  I told him that sounded awesome.  I think some of you will remember Nicko speaking at our church a couple times.  He is infectious with his love for Jesus and his passion for sharing Jesus with others.  If you have any interest in increasing your boldness and in growing in sharing Jesus with others, I would definitely recommend you jump in on this opportunity!

Women’s Ministry Events

Here’s a few announcements from our amazing Women of Grace ministry:

This Sunday – The Shield of Faith

We took a little break from our “Fighting the Good Fight of the Faith” series for Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, but now we’re back to that series again.  You’ll remember that we were working through the “Armor of God” passage in Ephesians 6, one piece at a time.  This Sunday we’ll be talking about “The Shield of Faith”.

I hope to see you all at 9:30 this Sunday.  If you are not able to be with us in person for some reason, you can always join online via the Zoom app with this info:  Zoom Meeting ID  153 112 432, Passcode 684814. You may also join us on Facebook Live at facebook.com/gracevcf.

Vineyard USA National Conference This Summer

I want to make sure you know about the Vineyard National Conference this Summer. Here’s the verbiage from the Vineyard USA website.

We are so excited to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Vineyard movement this year! Since 1974, when the first Vineyard Church gathered outside Los Angeles, we have seen God move among us, transform lives, and empower us with the Holy Spirit.

At this conference, we will reflect on the soil of our hearts and our movement, and the seeds God is still planting in both of these places.

By offering two locations and dates we hope that everyone – pastors, leaders, volunteers, and even those just curious about the Vineyard – will be able to gather together this summer for our conferences. We will have opportunities to spend time in worship, teaching, and prayer, as well as gather in smaller groups with people in similar ministry roles and life phases. And we are pleased to share that this year’s registration costs have been greatly reduced through our generous sponsors.

As they mentioned, the conference is in 2 locations this year – the WEST on June 17-20 in Denver, CO, and the EAST on July 15-18 in Cincinnati, OH.  I’m planning on going to the one in Denver, and I’d be delighted if some of you will join me.  These conferences are always excellent, and it is uniquely wonderful to gather with other like minded Vineyard friends from around the nation (and really, from around the world, because we always have international friends join us).

You can get all the information you need and register for the conference here:  https://conference.vineyardusa.org/

And that’s all I wanted to share with you for this week’s update.  Have a great rest of your weekend!

with love and blessings,

Ron Ohst
