Hello Grace Vineyard Family and Friends,

Happy Good Friday to you!

“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance; that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

I always suffer some bit of cognitive dissonance when I say the phrase “Good Friday”, because in one sense what happened was the worst thing that has ever happened – the execution by crucifixion of Jesus, the Son of God.  But of course it was also the best day for humanity, because that awful death was the means by which God would redeem us from our desperate, sinful state.   Ultimately we look to “The Greatest Day in History”, Resurrection Sunday, for on the 3rd day Jesus resurrected just like He promised.  Oh Happy Day!!

Tonight – The Chosen Season 4, Episode 1 & 2

Tonight at 6:30 we will be showing Season 4, Episodes 1 and 2 on the Big Screen.  I hope you will be joining us!

The Chosen is an immensely popular multi-season series depicting the life of Jesus and his disciples.  In Season 4, John the Baptist has been arrested and meets his tragic end, foreshadowing the fate Jesus himself will suffer at the end of his life. The disciples contend with conflicts and jealousies among themselves and must learn unfamiliar qualities of humility and forgiveness. And in the final episodes we experience the miracle of Lazarus being raised from the dead.

And next Friday, April 5, we’ll be back again to watch episodes 3 & 4.   Stay tuned for upcoming episodes on future Fridays.

Humanity Showers Outreach Cancelled Due To Rain

Please note that the monthly Homeless Outreach/Shower Ministry that was planned for this Saturday (March 30) has to be cancelled due to rain.  We plan on resuming this outreach next month on the last Saturday.

Vineyard USA National Conference This Summer

I want to make sure you know about the Vineyard National Conference this Summer. Here’s the verbiage from the Vineyard USA website.

We are so excited to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Vineyard movement this year! Since 1974, when the first Vineyard Church gathered outside Los Angeles, we have seen God move among us, transform lives, and empower us with the Holy Spirit.

At this conference, we will reflect on the soil of our hearts and our movement, and the seeds God is still planting in both of these places.

By offering two locations and dates we hope that everyone – pastors, leaders, volunteers, and even those just curious about the Vineyard – will be able to gather together this summer for our conferences. We will have opportunities to spend time in worship, teaching, and prayer, as well as gather in smaller groups with people in similar ministry roles and life phases. And we are pleased to share that this year’s registration costs have been greatly reduced through our generous sponsors.

As they mentioned, the conference is in 2 locations this year – the WEST on June 17-20 in Denver, CO, and the EAST on July 15-18 in Cincinnati, OH.  I’m planning on going to the one in Denver, and I’d be delighted if some of you will join me.  These conferences are always excellent, and it is uniquely wonderful to gather with other like minded Vineyard friends from around the nation (and really, from around the world, because we always have international friends join us).

You can get all the information you need and register for the conference here:  https://conference.vineyardusa.org/

Jesus Walk, Saturday April 6th

Our next “Jesus Walk” will be on April 6th.   Everybody will meet at the parking structure in downtown Oceanside at the corner of Seagaze and Cleveland at 10am.  From there we’ll walk North toward the pier along the strand, and play it completely by ear.  We hope to have one or more of our guitar playing worship people walking with us so we will sing some worship songs along the way.  We’ll encounter people and cross the “chicken line” and have some “holy hello’s”, some great conversations, some opportunities to share with people, and some opportunities to pray with people.  I hope a bunch of us will join Mark Newell on this adventure.  If you have a question, reach out to Mark with a text or call at 760) 715-1611.

Evangelism at Huntington Beach Pier April 13th

Our good friend Nicko Ostby called me with a great opportunity.  I’ll let you hear his words: “Hey Ron! I’m gonna be leading a time of street evangelism 3pm to 5pm at Huntington Beach Pier on Saturday, April 13th! Dinner with everyone at 5pm.6pm music & ministry night at Sur Coffee, Huntington Beach! Would you or any of your congregation want to join us for some evangelism etc?”  I told him that sounded awesome.  I think some of you will remember Nicko speaking at our church a couple times.  He is infectious with his love for Jesus and his passion for sharing Jesus with others.  If you have any interest in increasing your boldness and in growing in sharing Jesus with others, I would definitely recommend you jump in on this opportunity!

Easter Sunday, A New Beginning

Sunday we celebrate the most important day in history – Easter Sunday.  On Sunday morning, Jesus rose from the dead!  He proved once and for all that He was who He said He was – the Son of God, Messiah, Savior of the world.  He conquered sin, the grave, the kingdom of darkness, and inaugurated the renewal of all things.  Because Jesus was resurrected, we can have confidence that His promise of our future resurrection is assured.  And not only ours, but the resurrection, or renewal, of the cosmos itself.  I love the words from the last book of the Bible, the Revelation — “I am making all things new!”

Many of you have been using those Easter Invitation Cards to invite your friends and family to be with us.  Please keep inviting people over the weekend.  Easter is a wonderful time for people to come and hear the Gospel of Jesus.

Have a great rest of your weekend, and I’ll see you on Resurrection Sunday!  If you are not able to be with us in person for some reason, you can always join online via the Zoom app with this info:  Zoom Meeting ID  153 112 432, Passcode 684814. You may also join us on Facebook Live at facebook.com/gracevcf.

with love and blessings to each of you,

Ron Ohst

P.S.

I almost forgot – I hear from many of you that you like to watch the message from the previous Sunday when I send out this weekly updates, so, here you go.  Last Sunday’s message was for Palm Sunday, and I called it “Jesus, a Donkey, and the Way of Peace”.  Enjoy!
