Hello Grace Vineyard Family and Friends,

Right now I am sitting in the lobby of the Julian Gold Rush Hotel on Main Street in Julian on Friday morning.  It’s freezing outside, but I’m in front of the potbelly stove they have in their lobby.  Coming through the front door of this hotel/Bed and Breakfast is like stepping into a time machine set for the early 1900’s (maybe even the 1800’s since it’s called “Gold Rush Hotel”).  They’re even playing oldies music (I’m guessing from the 1920s and 1930s).  I’m here with Kim to celebrate her birthday.  If you’ve never been, you should check it out some time.  It’s in the mountains at over 4000 ft elevation, so it gets snow, and it’s only about an hour drive from Oceanside, if you can believe that.  What a beautiful drive to get here! I know I often mention how much I love San Diego, but here’s another reason.  You can be at one of our beaches in the morning, and be in in the mountains in the snow the same afternoon, with the most beautiful views all day.  We’re having a very relaxing time.  I’ll probably keep this week’s email short.  In fact, Kim just walked down the staircase we’re gonna venture out on the main street right now, so I’ll continue this email a little later (might not get back to it until tomorrow…)

(….about 6 hours later…)

I don’t know if you can see it on the picture of main street, but it definitely started snowing.  Snow and then rain.  We’re having very wintery weather for our get-away.  Perfect time to stop for Pie à la Mode.  We are having a very nice time enjoying each other and Julian, but we are planning on being back with you on Sunday morning for a very special day (provided we don’t get snowed in!)

“Who Wins?” with special guest Snake Ertel on Sunday

I’ve invited our own Richard “Snake” Ertel to bring the message this Sunday.  He definitely knows how to capture our attention and our hearts with his preaching, doesn’t he?!  I asked Snake for a 1 or 2 sentence blurb about this Sunday’s talk, and here’s what we can look forward to: “Are you pacing yourself; wearing yourself out or are you not even in the game?”  Sounds like we’re in for some wise life lessons from the Bible and how to live the game of life, and who it is that is winning.  Can’t wait to worship Jesus with my Grace Vineyard family on Sunday morning and then get some equipping in life and ministry.  If you have to be away for any reason you can still join us online via zoom with this info:  Zoom Meeting ID  153 112 432, Passcode 684814. You may also join us on Facebook Live at facebook.com/gracevcf.

After Church Prayer This Sunday

This Sunday is our monthy after church prayer meeting.  We’ll start right after church and end by 1pm.  This is a great way to partner with the Lord using one His most powerful spiritual weapons – PRAYER!  We’ll have several stations set up on the terrace with a prayer focus area at each.  We move from station to station, praying over the needs that are described at that station.  Come check it out!

Super Bowl Party This Sunday at 3pm

The big weekend is finally here: it’s Super Bowl time!  I hope you know that not only are all of you invited to our big Super Bowl party, but you should invite all your friends and family too.  What a great opportunity to invite people who wouldn’t normally come to a church service to see where you worship every week?!   You’ll have that much more context the next time you want to invite them to a worship service.  The party starts at 3pm, we’ll be showing the game on the big screen and we’ll set up the terrace with tables and chairs for a game day potluck.  And to make it more fun, we’ll have a Chili Cook-off, a Cornbread Cook-off, and a Dessert Cook-off.  There are prizes for each of the winners!  Please give Steve Rogers a text/call at 760-500-4324, or check in with him on Sunday morning to sign up for the Cook-Offs and any other info you might need.

Women’s Walk and Men’s Breakfast on Saturday Morning

This Saturday, February 10th, is the 2nd Saturday of the month, and for Grace Vineyard that means it’s time for our Women of Grace monthly walk/hike and our Men of Grace monthly Breakfast. For the ladies, this month’s walk/hike is at Hosp Grove. We’ll meet at the Hosp Grove playground off Jefferson at 9am.  Please let Kathy Green know if you plan to attend 760.583.1779.  For the men, we’ll meet at 8am at Ty’s Burger house for our usual amazing breakfast and great fellowship.  Our speaker this month is Larry Niggli from “The Man in the Mirror”.

Collecting Women’s Business-Casual Clothing

On Sundays we are still collecting women’s nice, business casual clothing.  We plan to do an outreach at a later date with these clothing items, so bring your clothing donations and look for the labeled bin in the lobby on Sunday morning. Please call Kim Ohst at 760.519.4558 for more details.

Collecting Blankets for the Unsheltered

Here’s a recent note I saw from Convicted for Christ on social media:

Michael and I were out again this morning with supplies for a Bunch of cold, wet and tired folks. Beginning tomorrow our emphasis will shift to resupplying blankets that were rendered useless by the rain.
Temperatures are forecasted to drop and we are in dire need of blankets…Now!
If you have blankets to spare PLEASE contact us at C4C and we will arrange to get them.
Once again, this need is Now! Thanks for your support. ❤️
Sleeping bags and tents would also be Great…

The “Michael” in that note is, of course Michael Aplikowsky.  Please get your blankets, sleeping bags, and tent donations ready, then on Sunday look for Michael to find out how to get them to him.  AND perhaps more importantly, talk to Michael about joining the C4C team in taking these donations to our neighbors in need where you’ll find opportunities to minister the love of Jesus’ Kingdom in the power of the Holy Spirit.
And with that, I’m going to get back to my mini-vacation with Kim!  God bless you each richly with His Presence and infinite kindness.
with love,

Ron Ohst
